Three-Day RC Airplane Training Syllabus (Buddy-Box Instruction)

This three-day syllabus is designed for a motivated adult student (60+) seeking to safely solo a fixed-wing RC trainer aircraft. All flying will be conducted on a buddy-box system, with the instructor retaining ultimate control and the ability to recover the aircraft at any time.

Primary goals:

Total time per day: approximately 3–4 hours, including briefings, breaks, and debriefings.

Day 1 – Foundations, Orientation, and Basic Flight Control

Objective: Build a solid foundation in safety, orientation, and basic control. By the end of Day 1, the student should be comfortable maintaining straight-and-level flight, gentle turns, and basic pattern flying under supervision.

Block 1 (30–45 minutes): Ground Briefing & Safety

Block 2 (45–60 minutes): First Flights – Basic Control

Block 3 (45–60 minutes): Rectangular Pattern & Orientation Drills

Block 4 (30–45 minutes): Debrief & Mental Rehearsal

Day 2 – Takeoff and Landing Mastery

Objective: By the end of Day 2, the student should be able to perform consistent takeoffs and landings on the buddy-box, with you ready to intervene but ideally not needing to.

Block 1 (30–45 minutes): Review & Pre-Flight Briefing

Block 2 (60–75 minutes): Takeoff Training (Buddy-Box)

Block 3 (60–75 minutes): Landing Training (Buddy-Box)

Block 4 (30–45 minutes): Consolidation & Confidence Building

Day 3 – Refinement, Variations, and Solo Readiness

Objective: Reinforce all skills from Days 1–2, improve smoothness and judgment, and assess readiness for solo flying at his home field (with local instructor support).

Block 1 (30–45 minutes): Briefing & Goal Setting

Block 2 (60–75 minutes): Full-Cycle Flights (Takeoff to Landing)

Block 3 (60–75 minutes): Variations & Light “What-If” Scenarios

Block 4 (30–45 minutes): Final Assessment & Next Steps
